Executive Leadership Team

Ed Malaspina

Chief Executive Officer and President

Ed is the president and chief executive officer of HAI Group, where he is responsible for overseeing the organization's strategy. A 30-year affordable housing industry veteran, Ed has worked closely with housing authorities and affordable housing providers on a variety of initiatives that involve insurance, accreditation, and financial products. Ed is a Certified Public Housing Manager (C-PHM), licensed insurance producer, Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), excess and surplus lines broker, licensed claims adjuster, real estate broker, and a Governance Fellow with the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD). Ed joined HAI Group in 1991. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Hartford and a master's degree in business administration from Albertus Magnus College.

Troy LePage

Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President, and Assistant Treasurer

As HAI Group's chief operating officer, executive vice president and assistant treasurer, Troy is responsible for the overall operations and strategic leadership of the company. He joined HAI Group in 2017 and has held a variety of senior-level positions at the company, including director of enterprise compliance, chief compliance officer, and most recently, chief financial officer. Before that, Troy was a senior manager at Deloitte LLP, where he worked with a variety of clients, with a particular focus on the financial services and insurance industries. Troy is a certified Public Housing Manager (C-PHM), a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Connecticut, as well as a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CTCPA). Troy maintains his Property and Casualty Insurance Producer and Surplus Lines Broker licenses. He holds both a master's and a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut.

Amy Galvin

Chief Governance and Human Resources Officer, and Corporate Secretary

Amy is HAI Group's chief governance and human resources officer, and corporate secretary. In this role, she directs the people, processes, and systems within the company that are necessary to support HAI Group's Board of Directors and internally within our organization. Prior to her current role, Amy served as the company's assistant treasurer, director of finance, and director of enterprise risk management. Before joining HAI Group in 2002, she was chief of staff to the chief financial officer of CIGNA Healthcare; prior to that she was a financial analyst at OTIS Elevator. Amy began her career as an auditor with KPMG, LLP. She holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut and is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Connecticut.

Bernie Odoy

Chief Technology Officer

In the newly created role of the Chief Technology Officer, Bernie is responsible for HAI Group's technology roadmap, identifying emerging trends, and harnessing new technologies to enhance product offerings and operational efficiency. With a focus on innovation, he plays a vital role in driving technological advancements, while overseeing the development and implementation of cutting-edge solutions that align with the company's strategic objectives. Bernie joined HAI Group in 2016 as the lead application developer and most recently served as the director of information technology. He brings both information technology and insurance experience from his tenures at The Hartford, Microsoft, and GE, among others. Bernie earned his master's degree in computer engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a bachelor's degree in computer engineering from the University of Connecticut where he completed a co-op education program with IBM.

Paul Lagonigro

Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer

As chief financial officer and treasurer, Paul is the financial steward of HAI Group, overseeing and optimizing the company's financial health. Ensuring strategic alignment with the overall business objectives, he is responsible for assessing and managing financial risks, identifying growth opportunities, and providing valuable insights to guide executive decision-making. Paul joined HAI Group in 2017 and has served his tenure as the director of finance and assistant treasurer. Before that, he was an assistant vice president of retirement services at MassMutual Financial Group, where he focused on accounting and financial management. He also brings financial and insurance expertise from his time at Cigna, The Hartford, Aetna, and Travelers. Paul earned his master's degree in business administration from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a bachelor's degree in management from Quinnipiac University.

Dr. Reginald Freeman

Chief Risk Officer

As HAI Group’s chief risk officer, Dr. Reginald (Reggie) Freeman is responsible for overseeing the company’s risk control and consulting operations as well as the enterprise risk management program and facilities. Reggie has more than 22 years of the highest level of experience in the fire service, including the past 19 years in leadership for various organizations internationally. Reggie joins HAI Group from the City of Oakland, California, where he served as fire chief. Prior to leading the Oakland Fire Department, he was the fire chief and director of emergency management for the City of Hartford. His vast emergency services experience includes a full spectrum of management in administration, training, fire prevention, public education, fire investigation, and operations. He has also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Florida, Anna Maria College, and Capitol Technology University for both graduate and undergraduate courses in the fire science, emergency management, and public administration tracks. He earned his PhD from Capitol Technology University, master’s degree from Grand Canyon University, and bachelor’s degree from Bellevue University. Reggie also completed executive education and leadership initiative programs from Harvard University. He serves on the Board of Directors for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE), for which is he is vice president.

Sherry Sullivan

Chief Insurance Officer and Vice President

As chief insurance officer and vice president, Sherry is responsible for overseeing the company's insurance operations, including underwriting, account services, and sales. Sherry brings more than 30 years of experience in low-income multifamily housing and insurance to HAI Group. Since joining the company in 1987, she has held roles of increasing responsibility, and she played a pivotal role in creating many of the organization's products and companies. A graduate of Quinnipiac University, Sherry holds numerous certifications in the housing and insurance industries. She is a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), licensed insurance producer, Certified Public Housing Manager (C-PHM), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Construction Risk Insurance Specialist (CRIS), Associate in Insurance Services (AIS), and Associate in Commercial Underwriting (ACU).

Tony Corleto

Chief Legal Officer

As HAI Group’s chief legal officer, Tony is responsible for overseeing the company’s legal, regulatory compliance, claims, and product development functions. Tony has more than 20 years of experience serving nonprofits nationwide, the insurance industry, licensed professionals in a wide range of industries, and a diverse range of additional clients. Prior to joining the company, Tony was a partner at Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, LLP, where his practice focused on professional liability, intellectual property, complex tort matters, and sports concussion. Tony’s vast legal experience also includes successfully representing clients in complex litigation and class actions, including professional liability, intellectual property, transactions, civil rights, and employment. Tony has served as outside general counsel for a nationwide environmental consultancy, the national Pop Warner Football organization, and various other business concerns. During his tenure at the law firm Wilson Elser, Tony defended cases on behalf of HAI Group and spoke on various panels at HAI Group’s annual seminar for housing authority defense attorneys. He earned his juris doctorate from Pace University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The College of Insurance co-op program. Tony is admitted to practice law in the State of Connecticut; the State of New York; the U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit; and U.S. District Courts in Connecticut and New York.
